We are very keen to hear from anyone who has had any connection with BEMAC during the last 24 years, whether as committee member, community group, artists or audience; especially in the early days when the organisation started. We are gathering archival information, stories, photographs, etc which we will use in some way in our celebration of BEMAC’s big birthday. Thus the scale is made up of twenty two microtonal intervals (shrutis) and the significance of the swaras depends on their position in the microtonal scale. The swaras are named respectively Shadja (Sa), Rishabha (Re), Gandhara (Ga), Madhyyama (Ma), Panchama (Pa), Dhaivata (Dha), and Nishada (Ni). These notes correspond with the seven centres of the subtle body, known as ‘Chakras‘.

Monique Lavail
November 10, 2010
After a bachelor degree in literature and theatre at the Sobonne in Paris in June 1970, she graduated from The drama institute of the University of Quebec in Montreal in montreal in June 1980. She joined The Actor’s Studio in Montreal of Teo Spychalski, from Polish Gerzy Grotowski’s laboratory Theatre, for two years, before attending The Actor’s Dojo of main actor/director pol Pelletier for several years.
Monique was born in Paris in France in the fifties. Communication, Cultures and Identity Issues have been leading her to language-teaching, theatre, writing and spirituality, all of which she has practised intensively for years in France, America, Canada and now here. Life has given her a rather warm, open and passionate nature prompt at sharing all the time, so working at Byron College with such dedicated people has proven to be a rewarding experience in feeling part of her new community. In her opinion, teaching to adults a language like French is often interesting, sometimes exciting, and always challenging!
