Brisbane Multicultural Arts Centre Newsletter For October 2011
| From the Desk |

| Hi all, as we approach the second month of Spring we are embarking on the mammoth task of sorting through 25 years of history contained in around a hundred boxes here at BEMAC. We are anticipating relocation of the BEMAC office at the end of this year and would love some help sorting through what to keep. We are holding working bee on the weekend of the 29th and 30th October. If you would like to come down and give a hand, please email admin@bemac.org.au to let us know. Next year we celebrate our 25th anniversary and are beginning the process of preparing some big celebrations. In that context, we would love to hear from you if you have worked, performed or attended any BEMAC initiatives over the last 25 years and you have an interesting anecdote, photos or anything else you would like to share with us. Again, email admin@bemac.org.au and we can work out the best way of sharing that material. Now onto the exciting stuff… This month we have some really great shows on offer, including our regular planet series at Brisbane Powerhouse on Saturday 1st, this month it’s everything Indonesia, and I am sure traditional Balinese musician Made Denis in a rare collaboration with renowned world musician Efiq Zulfiqar from West Java will excite and enchant the Powerhouse audience. Our regular Planet series at the Brisbane Powerhouse is also being expanded to include a series of ticketed shows in the Visy Theatre. This month, we have an exciting Yolngu group from North East Arnhem Land. One of the most exciting Indigenous band to come out of this area for a long time, get down and support their performance on the 30th October. Tickets are $25 each, or $20 for BEMAC members. Finally, last but definitely not least, the BEMAC events team have been working very long hours to put the finishing touch on the programming for Queensland Multicultural Festival 2011, and I must say, we are very pleased with the end result. On the 16th October in the Roma Street Parklands, you will have an opportunity to experience performances representing over 65 cultures, with a range of traditional and also some more contemporary acts across 6 venues from 11am – 7pm. Don’t miss interstate performers, Frank Yamma and The Barons of Tang, but also a fantastic array of local Queensland acts. I only wish I didn’t have to work on the day and could spend it checking out all the amazing talent this great state has to offer! |
