The Anishinnabek Northern Lights Dance & Culture Troupe are in Australia for a limited time, dont miss this fantastic opportunity to learn from these amazing artists. Fresh from a successful Dreaming Festival season, you can join them at BEMAC this Friday from 10am to participate in either a dance/song/drumming workshop or hand-craft workshop, or feel free to join us for both!
In the first workshop, you will enjoy stunning dance combined with an exhilarating mix of singing and drumming to weave the heart warming and captivating creation stories of the Anishinnabek people. 10am-12pm 120 Main Street Kangaroo Point
The second workshop is craftwork process. You will have the opportunity to make traditional leather medicine bags which are used for sacred herbs, medicines or tobacco for healing, spiritual strength, protection and walking in a good way. 1pm-3pm 120 Mian Street, Kangaroo Point.

BEMAC is pleased to bring you their annual showcase event, highlighting some of the most exciting new artists and a stable of old favorites to entertain you with music from across the globe. When you tire of dancing under the stars, check out the array of crafts and cds for that last minute Christmas gift with a difference, or learn how to express yourself Bollywood style or through the pounding rhythm of an African drum!
Presented by BEMAC with the support of Brisbane City Council, this version will feature the performances of South Pacific Drummers, Imanzi, Kizuna, Spacifix Brisbane Babas Band, South Pacific Island Dance Group, Silk Road, Alan Boyle, Ethno Choir and many more!

This dynamic troupe perform stunning dance combined with an exhilarating mix of singing and drumming to weave their heart warming and captivating creation stories of the Anishinnabek people.
Narrative story telling is accompanied by beautiful dance and gentle drumming telling of the great mystery, and how the Great Lakes of Canada and the U.S.A. were formed.
The pace steadily picks up as waves of powerful drumming accompany heartfelt and impassioned traditional singing – the likes of which most audiences around the world have never experienced. Audiences will be held spell bound as further enthralling dancers showcase their talents and amazing costumes, sharing the many traditional dancing styles of the Anishinnabek nation. The dancers mesmerize with great skill and vibrant colours amid a pulsing sea of drum rhythms and otherworldly singing which speaks to the very heart and spirit.
Australian audiences have a rare and privileged glimpse into the special traditions and performance magic of these amazing and dynamic artists.
