Sahaj Sangeet

Indian Classical and Devotional Music. The swaras can also be made sharper or flatter, forming microtonal intervals known as ‘Shruti’ that convey particular expressions. Thus the scale is made up of twenty two microtonal intervals (shrutis) and the significance of the swaras depends on their position in the microtonal scale. The swaras are named respectively Shadja (Sa), Rishabha (Re), Gandhara (Ga), Madhyyama (Ma), Panchama (Pa), Dhaivata (Dha), and Nishada (Ni). These notes correspond with the seven centres of the subtle body, known as ‘Chakras‘.
