3 P Program – Producing, Promoting & Presenting high quality multicultural arts
BEMAC’s annual program is always filled with amazing opportuities to see, learn and experince Queensland’s diversity and a range of amazing artists and art, as well as the opportunity to experience high qulaity work from across the country and visiting international artists. In addition to our core annual events, BEMAC also program the Queensland Multicultural Festival, host a range of international and nationally touring artists at a range of venues across the State, and support national and international touring and programs for Queensland artists.
These are the key events that BEMAC run annually:
Planet – BEMAC are pleased to present Planet, in partnership with the Brisbane Powerhouse, Planet is a free world music concert series on the Turbine Platform from 5pm-7pm on the first Saturday of every month. Launched in July of 2009, this successful series will continue in 2011-12, showcasing traditional world music and more contemporary world fusion acts; including: Dheeraj Shretha, Spacifix, Muziz, Baala Baajo, Walisuma and more… In addition to the regular monthly program, BEMAC are also pleased to support an array of international acts Brisbane Powerhouse are presenting as part of their Big Planet series.
Zillmere Multicultural Festival – One Place, Many Cultures is an annual festival located inn the suburb of Zillmere which showcases the amazing diversity of the Brisbane North region. Delivered in partnership with Jabiru Youth and Community Services Inc, this event is a catalyst for range of community arts and cultural development program with a range of cultural groups across Brisbane’s northern suburbs.
World By Night is our annual showcase event held mid-December, where you can sample some of the best international cuisine available in Brisbane, do some unique and unusual Christmas shopping with an eclectic collection of arts and crafts from around the world, all while you are entertained by an engaging program of the best world music on offer in Brisbane. Held for the first time in 2009 in the Yungaba garden’s as part of the B150/Q150 celebrations, this event is now a regular on the annual BEMAC calendar and is our way of finishing the year with a bang! In 2010 the event moved to the CBD and spread over 3 stages.
Annual Multicultural Creative Industries Conference – The conference is a key event for the arts sector in Queensland, with In its second year, this an array of guest speakers from all facets of the industry, artist showcases and networking opportunities. In 2009 the Conference was themed Multicultural Arts and Mobility – touring in and out of Queensland and hosted the Kultour annual Board meeting. In 2010, we put the focus firmly on the ladies, launching BEMAC’s Women In Arts and Music program, with a special added bonus of a weeks worth of workshops with leading artists, including Emma Donovan, Mihirangi, Urshula Yovich, Ngaarie and others. This event is a must on the calendar of anyone who is interested in multicultural arts as a practitioner, presenter, promoter, etc.
